REFLECTION (:<>:) Mr. Hughes' teaching philosophy has grown out of a variety of experiences beginning with youthful studies with Mr. Rudnicki and Sarah Scriven, teachers who combined sound technical training with boundless enthusiasm for their students and the great music of the classical tradition. Mr. Hughes was introduced to Suzuki string pedagogy at a teachers' training seminar at New York's School for Strings in 2006, which resonated strongly with his own developing convictions and experiences. The educational ideas of Tsunesaburo Makaguchi have also played a significant role in Mr. Hughes' journey as a private teacher. Ten years' practical teaching experience with nearly one hundred private students have led Mr. Hughes to recognize and support each student's unique way of learning. At the same time Mr. Hughes, in his capacity as a guide, endeavors to deepen daily his own appreciation for the arts of playing and teaching.

KREISLER, ETC. In 1972, P. Hughes at age 15 was the youngest member admitted to the Worcester Orchestra and played there for ten seasons in historic Mechanics Hall under the batons of world renown conductors and guest conductors. Since 1982 he has freelanced in a number of symphonies and theater orchestras throughout the greater Boston area. He is continuing to work on his lifetime goal of mastering the Bach Sonatas and Partitas for unaccomapanied violin. Additionally, he collects historical recordings of 20th century masters of the violin and has made a serious hobby of studying the works of legendary violinist and composer, Fritz Kreisler. Encountering at age five a recording on his parents' LP turntable that featured "Kreisler Favorites" and Paganini Caprices performed by Zino Francescatti was a life changing event for the young unsuspecting Hughes; happy-go-lucky he found himself on track to a wonderful world of music and has not turned back since.
