I'm centrally located near 10 Mile Rd and Coolidge, with easy access to I-696.
I teach traditional violin and viola (beginning through advanced, ages 6 thru adult). I also coach chamber music, as well as the standard orchestral repertoire. I've served on the DSO's audition committee, so if you're preparing for an orchestra audition or applying to a music school, I can help give you a leg up on the competition!
Educational Background: I attended the State University of New York and Manhattan School of Music, where I was a teaching assistant to the world-renowned concert violinist, Erick Friedman.
Experience: Former concertmaster: American Philharmonia Orchestra (N.Y.). Former member: Detroit Symphony, N.J. Symphony, Mostly Mozart Festival Orch., N.Y. Chamber Symphony, et al. Experienced chamber musician and soloist. Former faculty: Center for Creative Studies, Detroit MI. Violin instructor for twenty-five years.
At age 17, I made my New York solo debut at Lincoln Center. I have performed at the White House and have been featured on WQRS (NY) and National Public Radio. I recently commissioned and performed (as soloist with the Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony) the world premiere of a violin concerto by a local composer. Recordings on the RCA, London, and Delos labels.
Teaching philosophy: I use a combination of scales, studies, and pieces appropriate to your particular musical and technical capabilities. I place a lot of emphasis on developing a strong technical and musical foundation. This includes attention to form, tone production, rhythm, intonation, and musical style. However, I am not dogmatic in my approach, and I try to tailor my instruction to the individual's needs and desires.
If you're serious about learning to play (or just brushing up on your skills), I can give you the tools to make rapid progress on your instrument and help you realize your musical potential.
I teach at my home studio only. My rates are $28 per half hour; $38 for 45 minutes; and $48 per hour. Call me at (248) 399 –7909 if you have any questions or to set up a lesson.
