Arthur Grumiaux (1921–1986)
was a violinist who was also proficient in piano. He studied under
Alfred Dubois of the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, where, in 1949
he became a professor of violin. For much of his career as a soloist,
his piano partner was Clara Haskil. Never overly showy, Grumiaux
did not enjoy the fame of some soloists, yet he is recognized as
one of the great violinists of the middle of the twentieth century.
He was granted the title of baron in 1973 for his contributions to
music.
